Academy of Robotic Challenge: Grades 3-12

If you’re starting or already participating in a robotics or engineering competition program the Academy of Robotic Challenge (AORC) provides awesome resources for you and your students! It’s an exciting international engineering challenge program that can be used throughout the year to generate enthusiasm, prepare students for problem solving challenges, and create real-world teamwork scenarios. The AORC is a challenge program designed to be approachable for ALL educators in the classroom or at home.

How the AORC Works:

  • Challenges are posted online twice a year and teams participate from their classroom, summer, afterschool program, or even at home!
  • Materials are not limited! Teams can utilize everything from fischertechnik®, K’NEX®, Inventa®, LEGO®, or Erector sets to items found in the garage.
  • The emphasis of the ERC is “Challenge” and prizes are awarded in multiple categories - everyone has a chance to win!
  • Mini-Challenges, community functions, and other activities facilitate practice year round.
  • Each challenge is available for a 10-day timeframe. Teams select a day or days within that timeframe to compete, the team facilitator logs in, opens the challenge, and starts the timer. The team has up to 6 hours of hands-on time to complete the challenge and upload their team journal documenting their efforts!  Teams are also allowed four "time-outs" to stop their timer (this allows teams to participate Monday-Friday in class for example).  During time-out, no active work can be done on the solution - facilitators must emphasize the honor system!
